Gumby Radio, a free radio tribute to the late, great Art Clokey. (Or "Radio Gumby" as some shortwave listeners logged it - either way is fine.)
Gumby Radio play list: ====================== * Original Gumby TV theme song * "Bend Me, Shape Me" - by Hello, a spiffy happy-clappy version. * "Gumby Is Dead" - Jeff Capo * "Blockhead" - Devo * Eddie Murphy - "I'm Gumby, dammit" (This bit was more difficult to find than I'd expected. Darn you, NBC.) * Monty Python - "Gumby Theatre". My brain hurts. * "Gumby theme song dedicated to Gungi Paterson" - Fiona Apple, bootleg of live 2007 benefit dedicated to production manager Gordon "Gunji" Paterson who was being treated for cancer. This obscure little puppy was hard to find and worth it. Just as delightful and quirky as Fiona her own darned self. * News story about death of Art Clokey * Art Clokey interview, talks about 1960s psychotherapy including LSD. * Timothy Leary interview, "Turn on, tune in, drop out." * "Bend Me, Shape Me" - The Models, the first cover (not the original version) of this song, produced by Tom Wilson of the Mothers of Invention for full psychedelic '60s acid rock effect. My favorite version of this much-covered song. * "Gumby theme song" - Death On A Stick with a bit of Beatles White Album era riffing on number nine. * "Twist and Shout" - Beatles * Gumby TV "Gumbot" episode with a few prank edits. I'm pretty sure in the original the Blockheads in charge of the Neutron Robot factory didn't install a penis on Gumby. But those Blockheads might have if they'd thought of it first. * "Bend Me, Shape Me" - The Rubinoos, a cover very close to the more familiar version by The American Breed. ====================== Show notes: This was produced for shortwave radio, hence the QSL notice at end, and unsubtle loudness and compression. Has to fight to be heard through static and fading. Also, thanks, internet. Without YouTube, YTMND for at least two intervals, indie sources for obscure song covers and live performance bootlegs and, of course, Boxxy, this would have just been much less fun to do. Mostly edited and assembled in Audacity. Station IDs are cutups using WinAmp randomizer to reassemble very short bits.
